So yesterday I was putting lotion on Kali when I noticed a lump under her right breast. It is quite a large lump so it really scared me. As a first time mommy, I was almost ready to head to the ER to have her examined. BUT, thank goodness my mother-in-law and step-mom brought me back to earth and told me to just wait and take her in tomorrow (today).
I took Kali in and her doctor said the lump is quite common in little girls when they are just a couple of weeks old. It is her breast duct enlarged due to the increased levels of hormones from birth. They said it will go away soon and return when she hits puberty.
This really put my mind at ease...given my mother's history with breast cancer. I was just glad it wasn't anything to be concerned about!
She also has each tear duct in each eye blocked. Another very common thing for babies. Basically when Kali cries, her eyes goober up afterwards. They said some babies tear ducts are blocked for months and months and some have to have a surgery to "unblock" them. Hopefully Kali's will clear up on their own!
Dr. Sowards also weighed her, and Kali is up to 6 lbs and 8 oz!! I know that still seems very tiny, but my poor baby dropped down to 4 lbs 12 oz after she was born, so 6 lbs 8 oz seems like a PIG to me! :) I call her my chunky monkey (even though she is quite tiny still) ha!
After her baby appointment, mommy had to go rent a storage unit for Tyson's belongings from Nebraska (I wouldn't let him just pile it up in our garage!) The nicest storage units in our area, the owners also own the liquor store next door. In order to get a unit, you have to apply for one at the liquor store. So, here I am, dragging a 1 month old baby into a liquor store! I felt SO awkward taking Kali in there! Once we were inside, she was fully awake and when I looked down at her while filling out paperwork, she was LICKING her lips looking at the display of wine! ha! I guess in 21 years, I will take her out for her FIRST taste of wine :) It better be her FIRST taste....
