Kali Elizabeth's Birth Day!

Oh my gosh, I have been HORRIBLE at keeping up with this! They say you will have all the time on your hands once the baby comes...haha, yeah right, no one says that! :)

Obviously I have been SUPER busy being a mommy and traveling since Kali has been born, so let me update you!

I went to the hospital on August 2nd and checked in at 7:00pm. I was feeling great and even requested daddy go get ice cream for "his daughter" at around 9:00pm. When I checked in I was 2 cm dilated and 70-80% effaced. Everyone kept telling me to rest and try to sleep, but that wasn't happening! I think I must have slept 2 hours at the most...I was so excited! Not to mention that the nurses kept coming in every hour to take my vitals...hard to sleep.

They started the pitocin at 6:30am on August 3rd, at which time I was 3 cm dilated, but I really did not start to have any pain until a couple of hours later. I was SO hungry, but all I could eat until Kali got there was a liquid diet. Yuck! My doctor finally showed up to check on me at 12:05pm...he interrupted my liquid lunch! ha! At this time he broke my water (weird, weird feeling!) At this time I was 4 cm dilated.

Breaking the water must have sent my body into ultra labor mode! The contractions kept coming harder and harder. I held out as long as I could (seriously!) until I begged for the epidural. At this time I was 4 1/2 cm dilated. I was SO scared for the epidural because I have heard how much it hurts. Oddly enough, and maybe I truly am a super hero now, I did not think it hurt AT ALL! It just felt like a little pinch and that was it! God truly answered that prayer! ha! I got the epidural at 1:15pm.

After I got a second dose of the epidural (because I could still feel a lot of pain!- takes a lot to get me numb!), I started getting really short of breath, felt like I couldn't breathe. They hooked me up with an oxygen mask to help. After about 5 minutes on it, all I can remember is looking at Tyson and everything going BLACK. I snapped back right away after I heard him yell at me, "Honey BREATHE!" I had passed out for a second. The nurses rushed right in to check on me because my blood pressure had gone so low, that is what caused the black out. I believe it was 96/48. By this time it was 3:45pm and I was 5.5 cm dilated...

After recovering from that, everything seemed to calm down a lot, at least that is what I thought!! The nurse checked me again at 4:55 pm and I was 6 cm dilated. She told us we could be in for a really long night! Again, it was 4:55pm. I started praying that Kali would just arrive any minute. Well, not even 1 hour later (5:44pm), I was 10 cm dilated! The nurse looked puzzled and said, "It's go time!"

We started pushing at 6:00pm and with the very first push, I had to dry heave for 10 minutes! ha! The second push, I started shaking so bad and couldn't control it. I though to myself, "Am I having a seizure? When finally everything went black again! I passed out for a second time that day! I finally started coming out of the "blackness" and heard lots of people in the room. A couple of nurses rushed in to take my blood and to "tend" to Kali so to speak. Kali's heart rate had dropped down to 50 beats a minute....VERY scary!

They soon realized that my blood sugar levels were very low and that is what caused me to pass out a second time. They gave me a boost of "adrenaline" to bring Kali's heart rate back up, and boy did it work! After that, it was smooth sailing. I pushed until 8:04pm, when our little princess arrived!

Kali Elizabeth was born August 3rd, 8:04pm, 5 lbs 5 oz, 18 inches long!

Mommy, Daddy, and baby all survived and were doing well after the LONG day! Kali was doing extremely well, but she did have slight low blood sugar, so they had to give her a supplement to help bring up those levels. I think she really just wanted ice cream again!

They kept me for 2 days at which time, Kali was 4 lbs 13 oz. I was so scared to take her home and wondered if she would gain any weight or not! Debbie, Tyson's mother, came down to help us out and was with us from August 2nd to August 8th. It was SO wonderful to have the help and support! My dad and Brenda then came out on August 8th and stayed for the weekend to help!
We traveled back to KS to visit everyone on August 12th :) We were able to stay through the weekend and visit friends and family! It was awesome, but we were SO tired after it was all said and done. We then headed up to Scottsbluff, Nebraska, so Tyson could finish up his job there and pack all his stuff to bring back to Colorado.
Yep, that's right, Tyson is now going to be back in Colorado! His next job is at Summitville, CO...about 1 hour and 15 minutes from our house. He is just going to drive each day to work and back so he can be home with Kali and myself :) What a wonderful blessing and at the right time!!
So now we are back home again and I am trying to get into a groove of things. Can't believe I go back to work in 2 1/2 weeks!! I am going to cry so much the first time I have to leave Kali with someone else!! :(
