Oxygen Time!

So it has been awhile again since I last blogged (sorry!). The last post talked about Kali getting sick. Unfortunately she got really sick. I stayed home with her that Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday. By Wednesday night we knew we needed to do something as I was falling far behind at my work. Tyson had bid week that week and was not able to stay home with Kali. She couldn't go to daycare because she was running a fever on and off and coughing really bad. I had taken her to the doctor the second day that she was sick (that Tuesday). He gave her cough medicine and told me it was probably the flu with all of her symptoms. He said to just watch her and it would eventually get better the next couple of days. We called Grandma Debbie on Wednesday night to see if there was any way she would be able to come out and stay with Kali for Thursday and Friday. She said she could come Thursday night and stay Friday. That Thursday (Feb.11- which was also my birthday) I stayed home with Kali for 1/2 day and Tyson was able to stay home with her the rest of the day. Debbie made it out that night, but we were so tired to cook anything for my birthday we ordered pizza and bought a lemon meringue pie. By Sunday (when Debbie was supposed to leave) I could just tell she still wasn't feeling the best so we asked Debbie to stay if she could. On Monday her cough was still horrible so I decided we needed to take her back to the doctor. It was a holiday so the doctor's office was closed- so we took her to the urgent care. The doctor we saw said she thought it was RSV due to all of the symptoms. They were even out of the RSV tests because so many kids have it right now. They gave us a referral to the hospital to have the test ran. They then checked Kali's oxygen levels and they were in the low 80's. For a baby this young- they have to have their oxygen levels over 90 or it could be dangerous. They said we needed to put Kali on oxygen right away.

The oxygen guy met us at urgent care to have Kali set up. After we got her all hooked up, he had me sign the paperwork for the cost of everything. I just had to open my mouth and say how cheap it was! I think it said like $16?? He said, "Wait, you aren't on Medicaid?" I wasn't sure if I should take offense to that, and of course I did. I said, "No, but I am sure I pay for everyone else to be here." (my big mouth). He refigured everything and of course we had to put Kali on a high deductible this year- yikes! ha! Everything will probably be around $1200 now. I guess the price doesn't matter when you think of your children though :)

We took her over to the hospital to have the RSV test done. I had to leave the room because they have to jam a cotton swab up her nose (really far!). I made Grandma stay! ha! The test came back negative- good news!

We took Kali back to her doctor 2 days later to check on the oxygen. He turned it down and within minutes her levels dropped again. He decided to leave her on the oxygen for the time being - for a week longer and then check her again. He still wasn't sure what she had because the RSV test was negative- but he said they were going to treat her for RSV anyway. Because of her cough and being on oxygen- Debbie stayed the whole next week to help us- which allowed us to work everyday. What an awesome grandma! :)

Finally about Thursday of that week, you could see a huge improvement in Kali. Her cough was almost gone and she seemed to be more like herself! Debbie decided she would leave on Friday, so I took off a little early from work so she could get home at a decent time. On Monday I took Kali to daycare because she seemed 100% better, just on the oxygen until the doctor could release her. On Tuesday I took her in and sure enough, her levels were back to 100%! Good news- he took her off the oxygen and sure enough she is back to normal now!

Here are a couple of pics from her 2 week stint of being sick :(

Jinx!

Oh no, after my last blog I jinxed everything!! ha!

Friday night Kali woke up in the middle of the night (not fully awake- but "stirring"). I finally dragged myself in there (3:00am!) and fed her a little. After she ate, she went right back to sleep. I guess I can't complain too much! One day in the last 4 1/2 months is not too bad! :)

Yesterday we had a nice evening and went to a super bowl party at the place we take Kali to for daycare. The lady that watches Kali (Amanda) is the daughter of a lady named Judi. Judi is best friends with one of my co-workers (Kay- who I adore). They get together every year and invited all three of us over this year. We had a blast and we both (Tyson and I) ate SO much we almost felt sick when we got home!

This morning I noticed when I was getting ready for work that Kali kept coughing. I fed her and was carrying her to her car seat when she spit up ALL OVER me! I put her in her crib while I went to change and came back to get her again....she had thrown up all over the place! It was horrible! I guess I still have a weak tummy even with being a mommy! I took her temp and she was running a temp. I decided to stay home with her today as I did not want her around our daycare lady's son. Kali has been crying most of the day, but finally laid down for a nap about 2 hours ago. Luckily she has slept well for the last 2 hours. I think she just needed to rest and be with her mommy :)

So hopefully she will get to feeling better soon! Poor little girl!

LOTS of updates!!

Oh my goodness- so I have had a "welcome to parenthood" last couple of months- For anyone that does not know or has forgotten- that means you have no time to do anything anymore BUT take care of your child. So, no blogging for me! (Well and I also forgot- whoops!) :)

So the last time I blogged Kali was 3 months younger and just had laughed. Needless to say, lots have happened in the last couple of months! Kali is laughing all of the time and loves when we make "pig" noises :) She can roll over from side to side very easily for the last couple of weeks. Her favorite position is to be on her tummy, so if you put her on her back, she rolls onto her tummy faster than you can blink. She has started standing by herself. We have to put her against something to hold onto, but she can stand for a while now by herself- she LOVES this!

She went through a stage last month of blowing bubbles and spitting all of the time. Not a good thing when we would go to feed her at night and she decided to blow bubbles in mom's face!

She can now sit up by herself pretty well. We still have to be by her just in case she decides to get excited and tumbles over. But her favorite is either on her tummy or standing.

She still is sucking her thumb- but not for a long period at a time (maybe 10 seconds or so each time). Luckily she has never really taken to a pacifier- which is nice! She can now hold her bottles by herself now and is happily eating carrots, sweet potatoes, green beans, and squash as part of her nightly diet. We are getting ready to start her on the fruits this coming week!

Thanksgiving was fun for us- we went home and got to see the entire family (both sides!) Kali loves her cousins (Adam, Kynzie, and Maddie)- so that was fun! She got to meet my mom (Alice) for the first time on Thanksgiving. Christmas was also fun and Kali got such nice things from everyone! She definitely is spoiled! But what is neat is she is playing with everything that she has- everything just "awes" her!

Right after Christmas Kali came down with a little cold - lasted about 2 weeks. It was never very bad but she had a small cough at night. I took her into the doctor and she just had a normal little cold. Her first cold at about 8 weeks of age - lasted 1 1/2 days. So far we have been pretty lucky with her. She really just does not get sick and it does not seem to bother her if she does. Lucky enough I have only had to miss one day of work with her so far! After looking back at it- I probably could have went to work but this was when she was 8 weeks old and I was too new at the mom thing- I thought I had to stay home with her! :)

About a month ago, Kali broke out with what looked like the "baby pimples" all over her tummy and chest. Tyson took her to the doctor and he said he thought it was a heat rash. We treated it like heat rash and it did not seem to get better. I read online about baby eczema and started treating it for that- sure enough within days it was almost clear. Looks like Kali may have the baby eczema! The doctor says it may clear up totally by the time she is 2 or she may have a form of it for the rest of her life. In turn we have to be careful what we feed her and the fabric detergent we use because it could ultimately irritate her skin.

Just 2 days ago Kali turned 6 months old and I took her in for her 6 month shots. I think I will have Tyson do that from now on!! She screamed a lot harder this time than last time. Luckily she never runs a fever so I brought her home and we just loved on her all night - by morning she had forgotten the whole ordeal :) At the doctors, Kali weighed 14 lbs 9 oz - which is still only in the 25th percentile. The doctor said she is really healthy and we have nothing to worry about. (Not sure how Kali isn't 100 lbs by now- that girl eats like you can not believe!) Her head was in the 75+ percentile (big head from dad). Her length was in the 75-80 percentile- from dad as well. Ummm, I guess we see who she favors!

Kali is still sleeping through the night! In fact I do not know if she has even woke up once since she was 6 weeks old! She sleeps about 8-12 hours a night! I guess the NyQuil is really working! ha!

Tonight I took Kali out to "ladies night" for work. It was fun and I got to pass her around to all of my co-workers (who adore her!).

Tyson is still working in Salida and driving everyday- about 1 1/2 hours each way. I have been working like a horse for the past 4 weeks. We have been so busy at work and at the same time I am trying to get a new person trained. I have worked the past 4 weekends and have to go in tomorrow at 9:00 as well- meeting with a client that can only meet on Saturdays. I should be home in time for supper :(

We are all doing great other than our busy schedules. Again- I couldn't love anything more than our little Kali. She has completed everything that my life needed! :)
